How Tech Has Forever Changed Dating

Have you ever had a talk with your significant other that went something along the lines of: “Don’t worry, we won’t tell anyone we met on Tinder”? While once an almost embarrassing way to meet people, dating apps have become the new norm, especially in the time of the pandemic. But this new way of dating has forever changed the way we date, and the team here at Joygeeks dug into our impressive collection of content to bring you some examples.

Dating diversity. Back before dating went online, many met partners through shared social circles, be they friends, colleagues, or co-workers. Sure, there were occasional encounters in bars or even at the grocery store, but those usually meant geographical limitations. Today, however, you can meet anyone from anywhere, no need to have a social group or location in common.

Attention spans. While diversity seems to be a notch in the plus column, the tech that enables easier dating does have some downsides too. Our attention spans are getting shorter, thanks in large part to our tech, and unfortunately this translates into less attention spent on our significant others.

Communication and courtship. Love letters, it would appear, are a thing of the past. Whereas once we placed emphasis on long-form communication; letters, phone calls, long conversations, etc, many of us now communicate through texts, or sometimes just through memes. What effect this has on our dating, however, is still somewhat unknown.
